1 Timothy 4:3 (The Apostle Paul versus the Ascetic Gnostics to include Buddha and Augustine)
Who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods (Broma/Brosis, Greek for Levitically food clean) that Yahweh Created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
In 1 Timothy, Paul is once again, attacking the Ascetic Gnostics (like the Essenes) . This was however a different group of Gnostics than Marcion and his Libertines (who teach lawlessness as to them, the way to salvation was realizing that the body and soul are separated and nothing done in the body benefits the soul).
These are Ascetic Gnostics, who taught asceticism (a form of legalism that said the punishment of self or denial of self could enlighten one to the point of being divine). They wished to avoid being “trapped” in their bodies by physical attachments such as the pleasures of food, and sex and marriage,so they forbid any foods that tasted good and often put mud or ashes into their food to make it taste worse.
They also forbid private property (it all was donated to the Commune/Monstary/Church), and having wives. Many who had wives simply quit living with them or having relations with them (which Paul also warned about).
Paul is not referring to the Levitical diet because he said that he believes ALL THINGS written in the Torah and the Prophets, and in Leviticus 11 pigs were not created to be eaten, but had other purposes (Leviticus 11). Paul quotes Leviticus 11 to Gentile converts in Acts 15 when he forbids the drinking of blood and eating of meat they knew hadn’t been strangled, and when one quoted a verse from the Bible it was a reference to the whole Chapter. Like Paul quoting Psalm 24 and Psalm 50 “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it”, the rest of those 2 particular Psalms talks about eating at the Feasts of Idols such as Baal (Saturn=Saturnalia on December 25th/Winter Solstice) and Ashtoreth (Easter=Spring Equinox).
The other interesting part of this verse is that G-d Created FOOD. Food is a part of matter, and the Gnostics believe that a lesser “god” created matter, and the “Spirit” realm was created by Jesus, who was a different and superior deiity to the one of the Torah that created the world in Genesis.
